EARLY PREVENTION

Children Should Visit A Dentist by Age ‘1’

At Vernon Hill Pediatric Dentistry, we advocate for children’s oral health by sharing information produced by AAPD. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) indicates that the establishment of a dental home should be no later than 12 months of age. Along with the AAP, we also recommend a dental visit by age 1 so that your child can be screened for early risk factors that can contribute to dental disease. By having an early visit, we can give your child the best chance of avoiding future dental problems. Call us today at 508-799-KIDS(5437) to schedule a visit.

What to Expect During Your Child’s First Visit

When your child comes for their first visit, your child’s medical history will be thoroughly reviewed and discussed. All aspects of oral care will be reviewed, including a demonstration of proper brushing and flossing techniques. The Doctor and staff will also discuss diet with you and the role that nutrition plays in the cycle of dental decay. After we discuss nutrition and the health of your child’s smile a personalized risk assessment will then be performed along with a dental examination by one of our Pediatric Dentists. We may also review the possibility of dental trauma at a young age, the potential outcomes, and ways to prevent injury to primary and permanent teeth.
